To Cleanse or Not To Cleanse

Cleanses do not work for sustainable weight-loss. If you are working with a practitioner and they have you doing a specific cleanse to balance hormones or root out food sensitivities the net result might be weight-loss that lasts but more often than not sustained weight-loss comes when you make on-going positive lifestyle changes. Cleanses are not the magic weigh-loss fix it that many “experts” want you to believe they are. You are better off changing habits one at a time that move you toward your goals. Pick ONE new habit and do it every day for 14 days, then pick another new habit and repeat while continuing to practice the habit that came before the newest one.
Here are some examples of daily habits you might like to make:
1. Exercise 30 minutes or more
2. Drink water (your weight divided by 2 is how many ounces per day)
3. Eat 4 cups veggies
4. At each meal stop at 80% full
5. Eat slowly (put your fork down and chew)
6. Eat lean protein with each meal
7. Replace grains with greens
8. Sleep at least 8 hours
9. Limit sugar intake to 15-25g per day (yes this includes fruit)
10. Eat more good fat (avocado, coconut oil, nuts, seeds)
11. Drink only non-caloric beverages (no diet soda)
12. Meditate for 10 minutes
13. Stretch for 10 minutes
